What is Cupping?
Popularized by the interesting marks that are temporarily left behind, cupping is a method of treating disease, primarily pain, by creating local, temporary congestion.
A glass cup and fire are used to create a partial vacuum over an area of the body. This draws the underlying tissue up into the cup, drawing blood to the area and creating space between muscle and fascia.
Like the opposite of massage, rather than pushing down into tight muscle and fascia, we pull to create space between the layers and promote healing. Most people who like deep tissue massage also enjoy the sensation.
Relaxing and warming, Cupping is most often used for:
- General wellness
- Musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction
- Abdominal pain
- Menstrual pain
- Indigestion
- Common cold
- Cough
