Diets, Obesity, and the Answer to Long Term Weight Loss

by Jan 20, 2020

Every year we make those same old resolutions. This will be the year I will eat healthy. This will be the year I will work out. This will be the year I finally lose the weight I’ve been holding on to. You start out more motivated than ever. But now we are almost 3 weeks into the new year and the drive and motivation you had are starting to fade. So, what is the answer to long term weight loss?

The Obsession with Weight Loss

ABC News recently highlighted America’s obsession with weight loss. Americans spend $20 Billion a year on weight loss, from diet pills to books to the latest diet trends. Ironically, more than one-third of Americans are obese, the more we spend, the more the scale moves in the wrong direction.

Fad Diets:

Roughly 108 million people in the United States are on a diet. But on average, dieters attempt (and fail) at regular and consistent dieting 4 to 5 times per year. What’s worse, is these fad diets rarely lead to long term weight loss.

So How Do You Achieve Long Term Weight Loss?

The real answer? Exercising and eating right. There is no quick fix, but it is possible to be healthy, happy and well.

We all know this. And yet, we continue to look for shortcuts. We look for ways to get us where we want to be faster. But the reality is simple. If you want to shed those pounds and keep them off for good, you must be willing to put in the work.

Nutrition

There’s more to nutrition than just eating a whole bunch of leafy greens. A well-rounded diet should include carbs, protein, and fat. But it’s important to remember that not all foods are created equal and neither is every body. Take the time to educate yourself and learn how to properly nourish your body.

Fitness

People who lost and kept off at least 30 pounds of excess weight for 5 years, average about 1 hour a day of exercise and/or physical activity. We need to move our bodies. Every single day.
